Camera Memory Cards
With digital technology comes the necessity of camera memory cards, a small stick that is placed in the camera in order to copy the photos off the camera in order to either download them to your computer or take the memory card to a photo processing store in order to print the actual photographs. The memory cards are usually available with 128K on each card, but sometimes they do come in 64K for those who don’t want to pay for extra memory. Digital camera memory cards do not customarily come with your digital camera, but rather are an optional item. The camera itself has internal memory and is able to hold a certain amount of pictures, but when that limit is exhausted, the camera begins to overwrite photos that were previously on the camera. If you don’t want to lose photographs, you need to put them onto a memory card and delete them from your camera before it reaches its capacity, usually 150-200 photos depending on the camera. That may sound like many photographs, but when you go on vacation or go to a special event, it doesn’t amount of much at all, especially if you already had some photos already on the camera.
In order to purchase camera memory cards, you need to know the type of card your camera take or the exact model of your camera. It’s important, also, when you purchase your camera to make sure that it is capable of using a memory card. There are a few models on the market that rely solely on internal memory, and your only option is to download photos to your computer, not a very practical solution if you are on vacation of if you want to have photos printed. With a memory card, you can either download it to your computer or you can have photographs printed, or both. Many stores today that process photographs have digital camera card readers that allow you to insert your memory card and choose which pictures you wish to have printed. Home computers have this capability as well, and it is usually done by inserting the memory card into the printer, where the contents of the memory card are then downloaded onto the computer.
