Security Cameras
With so much shoplifting going on today, many retailers are resorting to security cameras in order to stop so much theft. A security camera is a device placed throughout a building that watches and records the activities of people from the time they enter the building until the time that they leave. In retail establishments, security camera systems are used to monitor store activity and prevent anyone from leaving the store with merchandise for which they have not paid. Sometimes a dummy security camera is sometimes used in areas where shoplifting is high in order to fool the potential shoplifter into thinking the camera is in a different place than it actually is. For example, if an electronics store is having problems with theft of IPODs, they may place a fake camera in another area while directing the “real” camera into the problem area. Though the use of a CCTV security camera doesn’t stop all of the shoplifters since some are just smart enough to fool the camera, it has put a deterrent on it. They are a better solution to the problem that the EAS security alarms that stores place on products because most of the time the employees ignore the alarm, assuming either the system is malfunctioning or someone just failed to deactivate the tag on the product.
In order to deter some of the potential thiefs who manage to get past the indoor cameras, some retailers are installing an outdoor security camera system in order to catch those who fooled the inside cameras. In some regions, a wireless security camera as well as an outdoor wireless security camera is used in order to allow placement in any area that is necessary. Depending on the type of establishment and the rate of crime, security camera surveillance equipment may be used instead of security cameras or in place of them. Another system that is used is a security camera DVR standalone that will make recordings of activity within the building, thus preventing the perpetrator from denying any involvement.
The amount of shoplifting has caused stores and offices to have to resort to the use of a security camera system, and that, of course, pushes up the cost of products as the honest people support the dishonest ones. Even homeowners have joined in with the purchase of a home security camera to prevent their homes from being invaded and unauthorized people being on their property.
